Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo Celebrate 'Wizard of Oz' Remake 'Wicked for Good' as LGBTQ+ Triumph: 'The Gayer the Better'
At the London premiere of "Wicked for Good," the film's stars, pop singer Ariana Grande and actress Cynthia Erivo, told the press the "Wizard of Oz" has "always been a queer place" and added, "the gayer, the better."
The book reframes the villain of the "Wizard of Oz" as a misunderstood victim, and "The Great and Powerful Oz" an abuser / coward who abuses said witch and then hides inside the city of Oz forever.
It was written in the early 00s but sounds pretty modern crap on someone else’s story.
It became a highly successful stage play / musical that sold almost exclusively to women. "Wicked" helped write the playbook for the "force is female", girl-boss lead popular media revolution. So many other movies (etc.) followed this example.
