Cars gift us incredible amounts of freedom to swiftly move vast distances at will. Just so long as we stay on the roads and obey the traffic laws. Otherwise we end up stuck in the mud, or in horrible accidents that create blockages that impede everyone else.

They also require maintenance and get taxed at every opportunity, but the freedom and prosperity they create is worth the tradeoff.
