Amazon had mass layoffs a couple of days ago (apparently 14k are already gone and up to 30k are planned, all corporate jobs) and it's slowly coming out that they gutted their game development studios.
They ended support for their MMO New World: https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/amazon-making-significant-cuts-to-games-business-moving-away-from-mmos/
They also cancelled an upcoming LotR MMO: https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/amazons-lord-of-the-rings-mmo-has-reportedly-also-been-cancelled/
Instead of big games they're apparently focusing on their cloud gaming service Luna and small AI-slop party games.
New World was probably the most "successful" of Amazons gaming division, and it made it maybe a few months at best before everyone dumped it. And it was one of many huge money dumps they tried to get going that went nowhere.
They needed to get out years ago when it was clear they had nothing but "infinite money" behind them.
