Amazon had mass layoffs a couple of days ago (apparently 14k are already gone and up to 30k are planned, all corporate jobs) and it's slowly coming out that they gutted their game development studios.
They ended support for their MMO New World: https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/amazon-making-significant-cuts-to-games-business-moving-away-from-mmos/
They also cancelled an upcoming LotR MMO: https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/amazons-lord-of-the-rings-mmo-has-reportedly-also-been-cancelled/
Instead of big games they're apparently focusing on their cloud gaming service Luna and small AI-slop party games.
Uh, good? I have no doubt that their "game development" division was just as diverse, equitable, and inclusive as their prime video division. It makes sense that they would fire all of these people first, since it will go under the radar. It's going to be big news when they get around to cutting the cancer out of the rest of the company.
I'm sure they kept the DEI cancer (and jeets). It's Amazon after all.
Either way, it's funny that the AI layoffs are coming for corporate jobs first, not the menial labor as has been prophecised (although they'll probably be hit eventually).
