During the great "Quebec Separation Referendums" this norther tribe said "If Quebec separates from Canada? WE will separate from Quebec!" claiming basically this same land.
Of course the Separatists said NON! (French for "no" eh?) You cannot separate from us! 🤣 Dat's illegal!

Fun Fact: My cousin's wife's Relative is the Earl of Orkney. He's Canadian!
What sort of relative? Her Dad's (Fran Huck, hockey player) Mom (her grandma, Barbara Huck) had a second marriage to Oliver Peter Saint John, the current Earl. He wasn't at the time (1985) but he inherited the position in 1998.

I did not know that. Same thing with the Orkney Islands that wanted independence from scotland.
