You're always going to find people who pick a nuanced position of a argument that is at odds with a core component of their own platform. I'll explain from my libertarian leaning position. (I'm a life long registered (at 18 yo) independent of about 45 years who has never belonged to any political party. Not belonging to a political party frees up your head space a lot...)

The D.C. beltway libertarians / open border libertarians are frauds. How do you know? Because of property ownership. You can't claim that property ownership is a core of your belief system and at the same time claim that you have no care about ownership over your borders or home and nor should other people.

These are obviously mutually exclusive beliefs and a purely politically contrived schizophrenic position that doesn't hold up to even a mere surface scratching of the issue. So don't blame libertarians for this, blame frauds and people who don't even understand a core component of their own belief system, or are at least selectively editing out what they don't like when it suits them.
