I came to say that. The phases of the moon are VERY important for hunting, probably fishing too. When it's brighter at night it's easier to find critters, and when it's darker it's easier to sneak up on them. A VERY good reason to track a 28 day cycle, I'd say.
That huge building in North America which tracked the moon's motion is impressive. It even accounted for a cycle not figured out by us until the 20th century, iirc. (They thought it wasn't accurate, but it was more accurate than the data back then)
Primitive people weren't stupid.
There's also moon phases. In the Pacific they only planted certain things when the moon looked a specific way. Same with fishing and hunting.
