There doesn't seem to be anything new and exciting going on these days.
No fads taking everyone by storm. No new technology everyone is discussing (AI is pretty meh at the moment, especially with the censorship). No new entertainment everyone has to see.
Maybe I'm out of the loop but I don't feel I am. Anyone else kinda feel this way?
Culture died during the late 90s and early 00s. Everything has been a fake and gay retread since. There have been several YouTubers and historians pointing this out. We have been in a bubble with no changes (aside from the fake, gay and demonic) for decades.
You could argue we've been living in a Lost Decade since 2008, maybe several.
Some people will soyjak-point to GDP and the stock market reaching All-Time Highs™ as proof that everything's hunky-dory, but it sure doesn't feel like it. There's no hope or optimism, only cynicism and nostalgia. It's like the Japanese with high school settings or isekai: everyone's retreating into the past and scared of the future.
The GDP is clearly bullshit. If it meant what they said it meant when the West embargoed Russia, Russia would have broken. Instead it didn't seem to have much, if any affect, on the bear. Made them more self sufficient than anything else
GDP includes gov spending, aka printing money, so it's completely irrelevant when considering actual wealth.
and they can just lie. like china does about everything
A country can have very high GDP without trading with other countries.
What room is there for hope when our race is undergoing a slow genocide via immigration and our more fulfilling social interactions come from arguing on forums with people who might not even be real?
Hope springs eternal. When your gaze is turned inwards upon the artificial world of machines, you may miss every opportunity to seize hope.
Bullshit, I'm sick of this evil optimistic world view that blames men like me for not being given the opportunities and abilities I need.
"Too big to fail" actually means "too big to survive," they just haven't figured it out yet. The problem was that children's development was being hamstrung by excessive, nonsensical demands, but those in power just blamed degeneracy and looked the other way.
The thing is, it doesn't even matter at all what they did. They can all go die in the forest somewhere and you're still going to have to take action to direct your own life. If you just sit around waiting for a better master to tell you what to do and how to live, there are LOTS of people who would LOVE to take the job.
Yeah, I feel like late 00s to early 10s is kinda where everything just died culture wise. Maybe a little here or there but not much.
