What is even happening here?

Painkiller was a fun little edgy boi 00s FPS with some neat physics-based kill mechanics and a charmingly try-hard aesthetic. How does that translate into DEI live service co-op wannabe number 836? I get that this is just what modern game dev has become, but it feels like they are going well out of their way to unearth these old IPs for ceremonial desecration. Like why work this hard to set money on fire?
