certainly better than that hatchet job Candance tried to do with him.
Man, that was really scummy. A really bad look for her, not even primarily because it was a hatchet job, but because she was so dishonest about the whole thing.
For those that didn't follow/don't remember the Fuentes/Candace Owens/Tucker Carlson brouhaha from a few months back, Dave Smith was one of the points of contention despite not being directly involved whatsoever.
Candace initially brought Dave Smith forward as an example of a good/ based Jew in her unhinged OG interview with Fuentes. Nick responded by saying that he liked Dave/had lots of common ground with him but disliked that those mildly critical of Zionism & Israel hold Smith up as their token based Jew who is allowed to say what the goyim can't because he's critiquing as one of the tribe. And that Smith remains a limited hangout in a way.
Owens and Carlson later circled the wagons, putting Smith on a pedestal that he was "the nicest guy ever", pretending that Fuentes had attacked Smith personally & unfairly rather than simply stating facts.
I haven't watched this latest interview either, but the collaboration is notable given this recent history.
That wasn't even my issue. And both Candace and Tucker are friends with Dave, so it makes sense, and I don't think that part was dishonest. Dave is a based Jew.
My issue was just how she went about it. It's been a while, but I think it went something like this: She invited Nick on for what was supposed to be a friendly conversation. She announced that it would be behind a paywall, but I'm not sure if that was communicated to Nick or not, but that's a side issue anyway. They sit down for the 'friendly conversation' and Candace decides to unload on Nick. Voice her conscience and shit. Pin him down on some important issues, a bunch of arrogant nonsense. It feels to me she was basically farming him for good girl points, "see, I'm not like that nasty Fuentes, he's the real bad guy" or something.
But where it gets really nasty is her playing the victim afterward. After she ambushes Nick, Nick speaks out saying he didn't like the interview, and Candace goes full "incel, sexist, liar, can't handle criticism, hateful" against Nick. Says it's because she's a woman. Says the conversation was fiery but mostly peaceful, and Nick just couldn't handle it. Pick a lane, woman; either ask the tough questions and own it, or sit down for a conversation like was implied. But don't do one, act like you did the other, and whine and lie about the consequences and critiques.
My interpretation is, she sat down with Nick under false pretenses, and the intent was always to blow it up, to create distance between her and the toxic Fuentes name. So she attacked him during the interview, and then again after.
And, again, this is coming from someone who likes Canace more than Nick. What she did just seemed really scummy.
That's a pretty decent summary of the entirety of the Fuentes/Candace Owens interview drama.
I was more referring to specifically that Owens & Carlson tried to involve Dave Smith in absentia in their attempts to smear Nick at the time, implying that there was more bad blood between Fuentes & Smith then actually existed.
I've now listened to the majority of the Smith/Fuentes interview here. It was very cordial. About halfway through, Smith does mention that he did take it personally that Fuentes implied that Dave got platformed on Rogan/Carlson, etc simply because he was a safe moderate Jew criticizing the Israeli state but not the Jewish people or their diaspora.
Smith seemed to be trying to thread the eye of the needle with his complaint to Nick implying he had more leeway to criticize Jews as Jew. Smith did admit that their is certainly more freedom to criticize without backlash as a member of the ingroup.
But he also seemed to take it personally with Fuentes' insinuation that being Jewish opened doors to him to mainstream exposure. Nick later responded by watering it down saying that Smith was platformed more while he was canceled everywhere not because he's Jewish, but because his moderate Zionist criticism is more palatable in the mainstream (doesn't criticize Jewish individuals, blames "neocons" as being the real puppetmasters. Smith countered that Fuentes isn't necessarily uninvited because of his harsher criticism of Jews & Israel. But because he has nuclear takes such as "Hitler has aura" that scare normies away.

Candace is an untrustworthy hack
