I think an art school (((bimbo))) who learned a tiny bit of HTML trying to promote her 'work' through any means necessary isn't the issue. It was the 'authority' who then, when already caught in an ethical mishap, came down on everyone full colonial style.
The Fourth Estate undone itself, one seam at a time. #NotYourShield showed that their narrative of hateful white spotty virgins living in their parent's basements was wrong, but double down they did - all of them, in a coordinated effort.
The Guardian, high off their ethical killing off of 'The News of the World' for their illegal phone tapping vcrimes, exposing the unethical work Edward Snowden had exposed the US intelligence services had been doing and trying to protect Julian Assange, who had to hide in the Ecuadorian embassy in London after withdrawn false 'rape' allegations against him from Sweden would have been used to extradite him to the US, decided to drop their ethics and put out a statement to their staff to defer to whatever Leigh Alexander would say on the topic of 'Gamergate'.
All of these outlets were involved in the GamesJournosPro leak, showing collusion across the press and into the Fifth Estate with outlets like Reddit and 4Chan implicit in censorship (Bonus points for knowing who u/MaxwellHill and u/StoneTear are!). 'Correct The Record', 'The Basket of Deplorables' and shadowbanning on Twitter while 'Learn to Code' and 'Build your own Twitter' became commonly used terms between #HeforShe and #MeToo.
Then we got the self-immolating trannies, covid, BLM and J6.
Gamegate wasn't were this started, but it turned a whole bunch of eyes onto it.
Thinking that the world of gaming could be controlled like the music scene of the 1960s was the were they went wrong. The largest entertainment business on the planet wasn't ready to be tapped into for 'Manufactured band' releases (As can be seen by everything SBI related) and spinning polarising narratives has gotten Trump elected, twice - with a stolen election in the middle.
So yeah, Zoe Quinn was unknowingly the spark to the kindling, but there was plenty of faggots already there just ripe to go up in flames. Us noticing this risk to humanities well-being is what helped get us to where we are today. And if our detractors could ever step back from their coping and seething, maybe we could work on a resolution to all of this.
StoneTear is/was Paul Combetta. Hilary Clinton's IT guy who asked Reddit how to do some questionable antics on a server he was working on with some "VIP" people who needed to disappear.
It just goes to show that you don't fuck with people who will spend years repeatedly doing an unachievable task, above and beyond their duties to family and work, to get a shiny special e-toy cosmetic upgrade to show they've done it.
The Democratic party and their ilk should have just left us to vidya, but ego gotta learn what hubris is.
