Israel has always been more interested in the West Bank than in Gaza, which is a backwater. Also, it withdrew in 2005, why not take the part necessary for a canal? Moreover, any ship passing through a hypothetical "Ben Gurion canal" would have to pass by Yemen, and thus the Houthis.
