Floyd was, to put it bluntly, an ugly, violent monkey who had deserved death long before he killed himself trying to swallow his stash. Forcing people to lionize such a thing breaks them. Mentally and spiritually breaking people is what demoralization is all about.

So he was the perfect fake saint for their unholy crusade.
