I'm less worried about the right being retarded and more worried about it becoming evil in its pursuit of persecuting evil. Free speech is a core principle of America itself, but I see an awful lot of rhetoric getting slung around lately that leads me to believe we are very much in danger of losing it.
Similar to how every single gun law in existence is unconstitutional, I find even "reasonable" restrictions on speech to be abhorrent. Everyone is going to define their blasphemy laws differently, which is why it is important for others to step in and tell them "no, it's fine for people to say that you idiot."
