Killing him would kind of solve a problem: one, it stops him, a very prominent political proponent of Israel from voicing any kind of dissent, and two, they can spin it as "look at what they did to my boy" against the pro Palestine crowd.
While it is possible that they are the ones behind it, if they are, that means they are getting really desperate to maintain their image if they are starting to kill off anyone who dares step out of line.
