Let's be completely honest, politicians and the bootlicking media have used the 'defence' part to implicitly suggest ANY military action they support is NECESSARY for the safety of the nation to normies.
Changing it to war is just enough to stop them doing that easily so they at least have to work to shill for the deep state, which these lazy pricks HATE doing.
The US military hasn't fought a truly defensive war since pearl harbor. Everything else has been justified with geopolitics and dubious intelligence warnings about threats/WMDs
