This has been the case for years now, but it still boggles my mind. Gaming is an overwhelmingly male hobby. 90% of the people playing enthusiast level video games are male. Yet the clear majority of protagonists in these products are female.
New resident evil? Female protagonist.
New Ghost of Tsushima? Female protagonist.
New Hollow Knight? Female protagonist.
New Silent Hill? Female protagonist.
New World of Warcraft expansion? Female protagonist.
And that’s just the biggest trailers of the night. Gay ass indie is almost entirely female (or queer coded) characters.
Is there another industry that hates its own core customer base this much?
Some of these are news to me (admittedly I just have tuned out of a lot of media, though).
I'll be honest, I might actually play that new Resident Evil. I liked that the designer made the apt point that the game would not be scary at all playing as Leon or Chris because they're too masculine and badarse, and he was right about that. They really did a fantastic job with the atmosphere, character design, and gameplay from what little I've seen of it.
I need to check out the Silent Hill trailer to know what you're talking about. As for the others? Hard pass.
Also, your comment is right about how even though some of these may not be strictly fugly lesbian grilboss games, they still contribute to the ecosystem of gynocentric agitprop.
That's the biggest drawback to supporting games like the new Resident Evil or even games like Stellar Blade or whatnot. Because every time gamers support female-led media, it still keeps woke fugly female protags within the mind-share radius. It still gives them an opportunity to breathe, and because of that, there will always be a remnant of the woke agenda latching onto even seemingly non-woke games.
It's a truly wretched situation. But as others pointed out, the sports industry, auto industry, and movie industry all hate their audience just as much. Good luck finding a masculine, big-budget Hollywood movie that isn't subversive feminist propaganda, or some kind of undercutting of traditional masculinity.
And the auto industry hates masculinity as much if not more than the gaming industry; here's a quick exercise: pick a random auto brand and visit their website. See if you can find a picture of a White male and White female together in the vehicle. Majority of the promotional images are mixed-race couples, women, or non-Whites.
