400 yrs ago nobody had Cameras. Or Microphones. Speakers. Television. Magnetic tape. Compact disks. Computers. Internet. Compression algorithms. Streaming algorithms.
They did have stories, songs, dances, etc so it wasn't like they had no cultural performances- kinda weird they're culturally appropriating English culture and that they love it so much they're willing to burn the province to the ground to do it.
Just a fun bit of pedantry. The film camera, capable of recording a fixed image directly is almost 200 years old. But the camera obscura, where they used the same concepts to project an image onto a manually traceable medium is over 400 years old.
