Guinea pigs and rabbits aren't exactly the prime candidates for adoption in animal shelters. Dropping off your pet to get killed and eaten sounds harsh but I'm not sure if slowly dying in an overcrowded animal shelter is the better option.
Either way the only people who would take up that offer are people who don't really care about their pets anyway. Loving pet owners usually try to find their pets a new home before even dropping them off in an animal shelter.
