Japanese are very weak to criticism. Tons of artists on twitter or pixiv will just nuke their entire accounts if they get a bit too much negative attention.

That is partially why their culture revolves so much around fake pleasantries and trying to avoid upsetting people so much. It goes both ways though, because that is also an indication of their in group preference and tendency to "stick to the herd" overall.
