This reminds me of the guy in a wheelchair during the first doctors era. He was part of the resistance against Daleks who had taken over the earth. His bombs didn't work, his plans were based on his bombs working, and he ultimately committed suicide to distract daleks from others.

I doubt we would ever see that in our modern ideology.
