I think about my dad in this context a lot, who lives in a small white and minority black town.
He’s never sat at a break table where the girls in HR talk about how blonde white guys are psychopaths (they saw breaking bad), or that we’re a result of inbreeding. He’s not witnessing the demographic collapse, crime, or outrageous housing costs. He’s just chilling and listening to NPR talk about how all his problems would be fixed if we strengthened unions (ignoring the fact they destroy industries and entry level jobs last time they were big). A lot of old people are just out of touch
Whenever I think of unions I think of Erie, PA, which is a city that lost half its population because its local industry tanked. The overall industry is doing better than ever, they just left Erie for Fort Worth and Grove City, PA to get away from the union.
Last I checked, the remaining union shop was protesting for more hybrid engines to fight climate change lol
I’m not even sure that the issue is that a union couldn’t ever win… judging by the unions we have, the issue is that they keep fighting to make things worse. You’d think, if they were honestly for “the workers,” want to throw their political weight behind fighting offshoring and immigration, since those are essentially both sources of endless scab labor. Instead, they consistently back open borders democrats.
Basically. When asked what's the biggest issue they usually say "Russia is invading again!" Or something like that. It's like idc about Ukraine our economy is fucked

For real, organizing a union in a world of multinational corporations is like expecting a winged hussar to triumph over a panzer tank.
