It'd DESTROY YouTube. Not even a joke as platforms like Rumble would have a shot.
The reason YouTube is the main is ease of use and habit. You do something to break habit, and make it harder to use, congratulations, millions if not a billion users suddenly get annoyed ALL at once and every alternate platform NOT doing this now gets an opportunity.
And then there's the other aspect, how does this justify any kind of censoring beyond illegal content? If everyone is now ID'd as adults, how do you justify censoring things like gun content and then how can YouTube kids exist when you CAN'T take the data of kids to identify them, it's opening a legal nightmare that their lawyers are probably screaming at them right now.
YouTube is the main service because as every other alternative platform (such as ZippCast) realized, you cannot keep up with the server demands unless you're a billionaire. Uploading and watching videos requires an ungodly amount of server space as even forum owners in the 2000s found out, and it's just not possible for any Tom, Dick or Harry to do the same unless they've got an 8 - 9 digit net worth at the absolute lowest.
Also fun fact: The founder of ZippCast, Louis Gualtieri, trooned out.

If it doesn't make sense then that's because it not meant to. They know exactly what they are doing.
