I've heard that internally in Israeli politics, Netanyahu is REALLY fucked. He's lost the support of the heavily religious side as they were pissed he tried to include their members in the draft so he only has support from the HIGHLY militaristic national side. Basically picture Israeli John Boltons.
So he only survives off their support and they know they only get what they can while he's in power so they're rushing ALL their attacks and land grabs now before he's forced out.
The driving force behind this escalation is the imminent demise of the boomers. Israel has no organic support base beyond the outsized influence of the rapidly disappearing boomer demographic. In 20 years, who will support Israel? They are very on the clock.
It’s a mess over there. Netanyahu probably goes to jail on corruption charges too if he’s ousted, so add in even more motivation to stay in power and we are getting fireworks.
Israel will probably try to use Netanyahu and Trump as scapegoats for this mess to try to salvage its own reputation, insofar as it cares to or needs to.
Even though all his opponents are basically the same, and perhaps even harsher. About 3% of Israeli Jews thought that Israel was using too much force in Gaza in a poll of a while back, so this is pretty much consensus in the country.
