I'm not so sure about that. They've interconnected everything so much that a collapse of the U.S., or the entire West, would collapse the entire global economy, which is why they're often called "globalists". A collapse of just the petro dollar would completely destabilize the entire Middle East, explode oil and gas prices, explode energy costs, make driving nearly impossible, shut down most traffick and commerce, which would domino effect collapse other sectors and other national and continental economies.
The people in power are liars and prideful. For them to be so unyieldingly evil, to not want to stop destroying the very people and nations that have enriched them, to not stop even in the face of immenent catastrophe, has just the right amount of hubris to be genuine for people like them.
They're also not all that intelligent. Short term operations yes, long term never. It's why they're still at "nothing was ever my fault, those 109 countries were all evil for no reason"
