How are you still a refugee after 30 years?

How are you still an unskilled laborer after 30 years? Even by now you should be the manager of all the ditch diggers.

The fact that he still sees himself as a squatter in their country after 30 fucking years speaks more for how impossible "assimilation" is than anything else. Even if he was resisting this whole time, he would have made some progress by sheer external pressure, and he has not.
