I used to have hundreds of records but my parents got rid of them when I was in the Air Force (to be fair they did store my comic books and sports cards until I could get them). If I had the space and a record player I’d collect vinyl. Right now I have a few records I’ve found at yard sales, the biggest being a Jim Croce record and an Elvis gospel album

I dont suggest an 8 track collection. If you do, be extremely cautious and personally examine each cassette for degradation, especially the foam pieces under the tape itself, and never order vintage 8 track lots online unless you are okay with a ridiculous trash-to-signal rate.
Also, 8 tracks themselves suck in terms of quality. I know a guy who said about them: "I only listen to the vocals, anyway". Sounds get smooshed. If you enjoy the little flourishes and subtle graces of attention that the musicians provide in your music, I say avoid 8 tracks!
Well I’d mainly listen to vinyl or CDs. 8 Tracks would just be for display. Same thing I’d I ever had a laser disc
