This reminds me of C.S. Lewis' essay, "Man or Rabbit?"

In short, it endeavors to answer the question, "can I just be a good person, without bothering about God and religion?" The answer is no, because atheism and Christianity have totally different views of reality. Atheism teaches that men only live several decades, while civilizations can last for centuries or millennia. Conversely, the Christian view is that men ultimately live forever, making their individual fates of more import than civilizations.
Lewis doesn't make the case that Christianity is true in this essay; rather he makes the case that if one truly wishes to be moral, one has a responsibility investigate to find which (if either) claim is the most likely to be true.
That's the long and short of it. I dont actuallu begrudge Elon, in the same way I don't begrudge Putin or Islam in the same way I do Judiasm and Communists.
At their core. They are contrary ideas opposed to me and competitors, real enemies. Thats far more admirable than subversive nastiness. At least it's honest. At least it's a real fight.
