Lies can only maintain themselves within a civilization so long as their negative effects are minimal, and covered up by success, abundance, safety, and comfort. This normally happens with civilizations at their peak, as the citizenry abandon the hard truths and replace them with easy lies, usually to pursue hedonism in one form or another, and place their burdens on others to do for them.
Successful civilizations at their peak can cover up the consequences of these lies quite well, riding off the built upon successes of their ancestors. However, as time goes on, these lies grow in number and magnitude, both in how much they're accepted by the citizenry and their negative effects upon the civilization. Lies degrade civilization and pull it down toward collapse. The more lies that are embraced, the worse the lies, and the number of people that accept them, the greater this downward force.
Kant's categorical imperative shows that all groups of people, including civilizations, rise or fall based on the average behaviors of the people. If a growing number of people within a civilization no longer believe, think, or behave in a way to maintain the civilization, much less improve it, the it will degrade toward collapse. A parasite class will grow steadily over time, the people who accept the lies, take from the producers and maintainers of civilization, and act in ways contrary to what is needed to keep civilization functioning. Currently this many forms, like corrupt politicians, feminists, career women, anti-natalists, drug users, video game addicts, porn addicts, hedonists, corrupt corporations, liberals, most non-whites, boomers who keep heaping monetary debt on their progeny, individualists, the apathetic, whores (men and women), LGBTQ, perpetual welfare users, etc. These people keep taking more and more from the producers, and don't think, speak, or act in a way that maintains civilization, pulling it down. These parasites live off the hard work of the producers, who decrease in number over time due to shouldering an increasing burden, and they either drop out of society, flee, or become a parasite themselves. After enough time, the system can't maintain itself, because there are so few producers and so many takers, and it collapses.
This "fatigue" is coming mostly from the few remaining producers and good people that are left, who are weary of being taken advantage of by vast swaths of hypocrites. You can only push good people so far before they snap. Lies can't maintain themselves forever. As civilization accelerated toward collapse, under the weight of all the lies, hypocrisies, and parasites, all of the success, abundance, safety, and comfort go away, revealing the lies and the hard truths which were abandoned. The negative effects of the lies grow until they hurt everyone, severely. This forces people to reevaluate and question everything.
The ones that know the truth grow weary very rapidly, as they're surrounded by idiots and hypocrites, and the negative consequences of the lies become so profound and systemic across civilization that there's little reason to hold back any more, and crass truths are spoken increasingly openly, to the shock of the idiots still clinging to the lies. The punishments for speaking wrong think become increasingly outweighed by the growing consequences of the systemic lies. So, open hostility and fatigue grows, and idiotic questions of "how could you say that?" are retorted with things like "so fucking what?", and grow ever more truthfully caustic by the day.
We're only in the beginning stages of this "fatigue" and hostility. It's going to keep getting worse, especially as the opposing sides increasingly polarize, and the good people realize the controlled right, and all other supposedly trustworthy institutions, have been lying to them for decades.
