The counter to someone deliberately going to the ground is to stomp the shit out of their skull, but I think this is prohibited in most MMA leagues. The fighters are basically taking advantage of rules that exist to prevent them from being killed in the ring.
I’m definitely not some old head boxing fan who hates MMA or grappling. My money is always on the wrestler. I just think the rules of MMA also heavily favor grappling.

No I get your point. But even in the early UFC strikers were out of their depths, usually.
It's funny because my perception is MMA would prefer knockouts over grappling.
