Say what you want about Iranians, but at least their commanders are nationalists that are putting their country first over themselves
Sounds noble an patriotic but most likely answer is they won't make it very far before their own government executes them for desertion.
I don't know how things work there so this is just my armchair speculation, but where the hell are they suppose to go? I'm sure Israel and Iran got people watching these guys, 12 hours, it's not like they can just tell the kids, hey, we're going to hit the beach in Azerbaijan so get packing, daddy's on a dead-line

And not an israeli apologist but to me it sounds like the threat is less, we will kill your wife and kids, and more we're lobbing bombs and we know where you live and these bombs don't discriminate.

Watching them to see who they would contact in response, work up the chain to see how Iran has reestablish their command structure? Find safe houses? I don't fucking know, just spitballing, could be any reason, maybe just for the lols because they have these commanders phone numbers and figure they won't be in service in the near future so might as well use it.
