I had noticed the first report used the weasel words "denied entry after meme was found." They explicitly didn't say it was because of the meme.

Same. My first instinct was malicious compliance. Trump told them to crack down on illegals so they're going above and beyond to check regular European tourists for any and every possible violation to deny entry.
