The Houthis are an ongoing threat that the Iranians used to stop trade through the Strait of Hormuz. The Houthis wildly over-stretched and attacked not only Israeli ships, but ships that might have once been owned by a jew, or in the west or something like that. So there was a massive response that severely damaged the Houthis ability to target ships.
The Houthis responded by attacking US military ships, but they lost every engagement they had. As a result, the Houthis agreed to stop attacking non-Israeli ships, and that's where we are at. It's a stand-off where the Houthis are still holding Iranian weapons and support, but they aren't stupid enough to keep attacking ships that aren't explicitly coming from Israel, or flying Israeli flags. Which, at the same time, is basically no ships.
The biggest surprise I saw was just how aggressive they actually were. I think the Trump admin actually didn't advertise well enough just how violent they were being, just how many drones and missiles they were using, and that they were trying to swarm attack US ships.
We were actually in very real war with an Iranian proxy to protect international shipping, but it sounded like there was just some bombing. from the media.

The Operations Room did a great job going over this.
