Most of the Reaganite Republicans aren't significantly different from the Buchanan Brigade. You're looking at basically one issue, which was supposed to be that amnesty would take place and migration would stop after that.
The Heritage Foundation represents the Bushites and their precursors: the Rockefeller Republicans. AKA: The Liberal Republicans. They always have.
Goldwater, Buchanon, Reagan, and the TEA Party are all the same conservative, populist, anti-establishment movement. Trump simply jumped onboard.
Your alternative is the Gerald Ford Deep State Globalists, or the Jimmy Carter & Walter Mondale Socialists. Those are still the same factions we are dealing with.
Yup. The only positive of the Reagan amnesty is that it provides an excellent counterargument against the "people" still pushing amnesty. No, we tried that, and the government shit the bed. Waves of amnesty just further incentivize illegal migration. All illegals must go. We had one shot, for better or worse, at amnesty. And we already did that, so we can't do it again.
Right. Amnesty was a lie to move the goal post and convince people to stop the deportations while "only bringing in the ones we need". Same lie, different decade.
Reagan ended no fault divorce, closed the asylums, started the government debt cycle, got the US involved in Iran/Iraq, and oversaw the initial imbalance of importing third worlders while white European immigration dropped for the first time in American history. He was the most effective liberal republican in history.

No Fault Divorce was going to happen one way or another as part of the sexual revolution. JFK killed the asylum systems, not Reagan. The government debt cycle is a continuation of Keynsian economic policy, that you can put on FDR. The US was close to Iraq before he took office. The US's relationship with the Shaw of Iran goes back to the 50's, and the fight against the ayatollahs is one he inherited. And, like I said, the amnesty was supposed to be the first step in ending the immigration crisis that existed at the time.

JFK started the process, Carter tried reversing some of it, and Reagan killed it outright in an omnibus bill.
And Reagan was still the first to set precedent by tripling the national debt during his tenure. It was the single largest increase in debt under one president at the time.
It’s also one he made irreparably worse and fueled the Iranian hatred of America when we were killing 20k Iranians with chemical weapons through Saddam.
The illegal migration crisis, he mass imported “legal” Hispanics and Asians and oversaw the first decline of white European immigrants.
It's not hypothetical revisionism, it's the reality of the culture on the ground. You're worried about one state passing a marriage law as if it was the cause to everything else. The Sexual Revolution was far broader than that.

I don't think your national debt stat is right. Normally, I would just assume that the largest increases in National debt would have been the Louisiana Purchase, the American Civil War, WW1, and WW2.
This chart only goes back to the 30's, so we can't see the first 3, but it does cover WW2. The biggest jump is a 90% increase in 1942-1943, which is what I would expect. I don't think the national debt increases by 50% in any one year from 1980-1990.
Obviously, Roosevelt is terrible here at debt increase, so from 1933-1946, the national debt increased by 10,000%. From 1981-1989, it's a 186% increase. I think that might be lower than Bush and Obama. The Louisiana Purchase, Civil War, and WW1 are extremely bad amounts of spending. Just doing a quick search, the Treasury department websites said the debt increased by twenty times in WW1, so, not sure how that lines up with Woodrow Wilson's presidency, but it's gonna be bad. And the Civil War national debt jumped FOURTY times, which, by the looks of it, would make Abraham Lincoln the winner by a mile. Even FDR didn't increase spending that much.
I'd put the chemical weapons stuff on Bush more than Reagan again, but even more so, the Iranians had no like of us because of our relationship with the Shaw. It was already irreparable.
Again, the "legal" migration crisis was supposed to be ended. We can also see that it was argued that there would be no ethnographic change to the US because it was the first step in solving the migration situation.
