One of the founding elements of the justice system we have is to inspire faith enough on the populace that we feel these actions are unnecessary because they will be taken care without having to stain our own hands.
We all know that has long ceased to be the case, if it ever was, and that makes actions like this necessary and applaudable if you have zero question of the man's guilt.
