Well of course they don't want kings. Somebody legit in charge might just throw them out.
Most Americans have zero understanding of how royalty function, either historically or under modern conditions. To the point that "King" gets used as a term of praise when someone is particularly benevolent, something aristocrats weren't particularly interested in. So the fact it's being used here in this context is little other than being par for the course.
Yes, the golf analogy is intentional.
