I say not yet because with that new xbox handheld that does apparently have access to steam who knows if microsoft are just going to turn the existing consoles into gaming only PCs (they seem to want to turn xbox into a multi-device platform not just a console)
Xbox is 100% headed to a cloud gaming/subscription/digital only service.
they have stated their goal is to make everything with a screen an Xbox.
the Xbox console is gone, I do not think they have announced the next gen yet either have they? I'll always remember my giant OG xbox with the controller I could barely hold onto XD.
But what's the point then? Xbox is already a mid/low pc, the games are just pc games tweaked for lower specs, other game subscriptions somewhat worked because they are also publishers with library of games they developed and own. What does Xbox as a full digital/subscription offer that other platforms on pc don't already have
Microsoft lost the console war with the Xbox One all the way back in 2013 because they originally announced it would be online only and mostly digital games before backtracking and promoting Phil Spencer.
They were recovering until the launch of the Xbox Series S and X. The problem with the S is that it’s just a high end Xbox One that can play ninth generation games, and because developers have to optimize their games for the lowest common denominator, they have to develop for games on the XSS to function properly.
