Hundreds of thousands of years, if not 1 million.
Not "1 million years ago" either: for the past 1 million years up to (maybe) 3,000 years ago. A big difference, eh?

We haven't wiped each other out yet because genetic selection also favoured those who were more "tribal" & "law abiding" than homicidal maniacs... mostly. Guys who could control their rage did better than those who were constantly angry... mostly. :/
