The usual answer is "Germany did it first!" by like 2 weeks. And when the US gets bombed by Japan they respond by going to directly trying to destroy Germany above everything else.
USSR was more of an ally of convenience than a true friendship. Similar to how the US was with the Republic of China.
The UK and France weren't too pleased with the growing power of Germany, especially with Czechoslovakian industry powering them, so they let the Russian army "go nuts" if it meant that Germany would have to manage 2 fronts.
The USSR originally wanted to join the axis, but Mr. Hitler was too preoccupied with Lebensraum to think of anything realistic.
I don't disagree. Supply lines would have been very long; but the Germans had already kicked the shit out of the Russians. The USA would have won a war of attrition; especially if they broke the Russian codes.
This was what started me questioning it all: why must we fight Nazi Germany for invading Poland by allying with the USSR who took the other half?
