It was the 101st Airborne of "Nuts" and Band of Brothers fame too (I'm at least pretty sure anyway). It was the premier military unit to use from a symbolic standpoint.
Eisenhower already set that precedent by sending the 101st Airborne into Arkansas to force negros into white schools at bayonet point.
Or Herbert Hoover, who sent the Army to force WWI veterans wanting to redeem their fucking bonus coupons out of Washington DC.
Whoa, I guess I misremembered that one. I really thought that was the Guard, but it was indeed the Airborne. Totally fucked up, either way.
