I don't need a bureaucracy to decide what a porn site is and isn't. I don't want to waste money adjudicating it in the courts. It's insane to police society for a family problem.
If there has to be a law, for some reason, the jail parents who knowingly expose their children to filth.
Porn shops have to ask for ID. Buying booze online requires ID. It's the lowest bar imaginable for porn sites to have to verify kids aren't watching their shit and the consequences of kids being exposed to this (even the most doting parents can have trouble stopping this, and what if your kid sees it on another family's device etc) are massive.
Show ID or don't watch your jackoff material, simple.
There is no law that requires identification. The standard is "reasonable steps." Which is why if you're old enough they don't bother asking anymore. Which is also why they don't get in trouble if the fake ID is too good. Businesses are allowed to balance concerns and you can't expect them to take unreasonable actions on behalf of enforcement agencies.
When buying alcohol the ID is checked on physical delivery. Which is why a lot of stores offer a free "deliver to store" option.
Adult business and liquor stores are subject to zoning requirements. Which is why gas stations see higher undercover enforcement of the laws.
Finally have you not actually used the internet? Ever? The genie is out of the bottle. Government identification and involvement in your private life is not the solution to every moral problem. It turns out credit card companies are better at solving the core problem here anyways.
