Highly recommend, is out on switch and switch 2 currently. Graphics are very anime styled and work great for a japanese folklore styled game. Gameplay is similar to other RF games, but has a lot more village management and there’s a skill tree system now. Combat is almost BOTW at least so far, is very sword and bow heavy but I haven’t unlocked more than the first two bosses currently.

You can romance any character as either gender.
For me, that's an automatic "no thank you". Not only because it's rainbow mafia slop, but because it's patently absurd to imagine that a man and a woman would romance someone identically. A man will not pursue a woman the way a woman would pursue a woman, and vice versa.
I know some people argue that NPCs should be "player sexual" or some such tripe, but that absolutely torpedoes the writing. You make everyone in a state of quantum super-gay-sition, ready to collapse into a gay or not gay state based on the player's input, and you thus basically tear out a major chunk of the implied formative history of the character. John RuneFactory never actually was sweet on some girl back in his childhood unless you make him straight, and he never pined after some boy unless you make him gay. He just declares backstory that should, but doesn't, meaningfully change who he is as a person, because it changes one of the foundational characteristics that make the character who he is.
Thank you for putting into words my exact issues with the rise in player-sexual NPCs. It's been a very apparent problem since Baldur's Gate 2 (the original) and has only become exacerbated ever since.
You highlight one of the EXACT issues I've always had with it, insofar that it completely ruins ANY sort of character lore or worldbuilding. Everyone is potentially gay, so NO ONE can have affectations or idiosyncracies that might disrupt that possibility.
For people who still don't get it -- imagine an NPC who has worked hard his whole life, and his parents desperately want grandchildren, but he has never found the right person to marry. Well, in a properly written context, a female player-character would romance him and they would have kids, thus fulfilling his storyline for giving his parents grandchildren.
Switch it around and make it where he can be romanced by male or female characters alike. If he's romanced by a male character, it now makes no sense about his parents wanting grandchildren, elsewise the narrative director would have to (appropriately) write the parents to be disappointed their son was gay. But we can't have that in [current year], because everyone has to be accepting of faggotry. So instead, as logintoblockcommunit pointed out, they simply have to REMOVE that backstory element altogether, make it generic, and ensure there are no story elements related to character traits that might disrupt the acceptance or possibility of faggotry for NPCs.
It's why any game with this "player-sexual" tripe is an instant no-buy for me.
