Shame can be weaponized and pathologized (like anything else), but is an emotion that is anti-narcissistic, and explicitly requires introspection and consideration of others around you. Shame is good. This is why being "shameless" is bad, and calling someone "shameless" doesn't have the negative connotation it used to.
