As detailed in the linked blog post, the owner has been kicked off patreon and ko-fi with no real explanation other than accusations of infringing material. Ko-fi reinstated him after he explained the measures he takes to observe TOS and the law, whereas Patreon has essentially told him to go swivel 'but feel free to start another Patreon project with us'. He was making $1300 on patreon but only $20 through ko-fi. Given Patreon's history, this could be ideological.
Catbox is a hosting site I use a lot whenever I need to hotlink a piece of media or show a quick video to friends, without having to deal with the cancer that is social media. I'm not affiliated with the owner nor can I vouch for how safe it is to give him money - payments go through Stripe although there are crypto options available I believe - but for myself, I did choose to sack up and give him a sub after reading his situation the other day. Free hosting is capped at 200Mb then there's a 500Mb tier and one for 1Gb. The community has apparently rallied and almost got him to $1,000 of the $1,488 dollars required for monthly expenses within 24 hours. Thought I'd drop a heads up for anyone else who finds use in the site or might want to support.
