The higher rates of HIV in bisexual women in the second study makes sense, they probably go to gay bars and meet bisexual men there. (Most things I've seen indicate bisexual men are the main vectors for HIV to women and later to a lesser extent hetero men (the transmission rates I've seen in the past for sexual activity with a HIV positive person I've seen are well over 50% for taking it in the ass, below 50% double digit for taking it in the vagina, and some single digit number for a uncircumsized man having sex with a woman, and like a quarter that for a circumsized man(HIV infects foreskin cells and enters through mucus membranes or preferably broken skin))
That's exactly what the bisexual women do. They're highly promiscuous -- I think there was one study showing that bisexual women who go to the gym have something like five times as many partners as straight women.
So they're sleeping with men and women at alarming rates (probably not as much as gay men sleeping around), and some of those men are gay/bisexual; they catch something from them, and then pass it on to straight men or bi-curious "straight" women.
