One of the nagging thoughts that has been bouncing around in my head is how almost every time a leftist pushes “empathy” it’s never actually empathetic, it’s in fact a condensed sociopathic view. Take for example when they push troonery, no rational or empathetic person would want someone to take an axe to their life let alone their genitalia, but an egregious sociopath would and like any sociopath, they would turn around and blame you when the inevitable happens. This is replicated in abortion, illegal immigration, critical race theory, LGBTQ, and climate change. Their “empathetic view” is never about actually helping anyone, even their “pet” obsessions are always worse off, but what it is about is causing the most damage to society possible and doing so with a smile as they declare themselves the “good guys”.

I have long suspected the same. Their "empathy" is an expression of sociopathy, as a direct result of making "empathy" a virtue beyond it's utility.
Liberals have a pathological outgroup bias, which is weaponized to destroy our nations. They also exhibit short term thinking, aka short time preference, in that they don't want you to make poor minorities feel bad right now, ignoring possible consequences to society in the future.
So, having adopted the cultural value of empathy as a moral imperative, the liberal-minded from a young age displace their capacity for actual empathy with virtual signaling performative empathy. At some point they lose the ability to understand real empathy, which biologically is only intended for limited purposes of protecting your kin. This phenomenon was really accelerated by people living in cities as obligate-consumers, and global media bringing news from around the world to your feed making it more persistent and present than local events. IMO this is why you see studies where liberals reported to love all things in the universe and rocks more than their own neighbors. It may not literally be sociopathy because it's likely correctable, but for all intents and purposes it behaves the same way.
The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.
