Yeah not having a passport is not a reason you won't get asylum. I don't know about the USA, but getting a passport in Canada is tedious and requires a citizen who already has a passport vouch for you, and swearing allegeance to the English crown. It also costs over 250$.
The problem is making it to the USA border without a passport. Airports and docks will require passport for international travel.
If he can get to the border though, he can claim asylum over being repeatedly jailed in dangerous conditions for speech criticizing the Pakistani rape gangs targetting White girls, and the government / media lying to cover it up.
They have likely siezed his passport pending the new charges they appeared out of thin are the day after they announced his release.
