Its Tinder. More than half of all women's profiles on it are bots or "content creators." So I'd wager the majority of those he matched with were in fact bots or shill accounts. The ones who either message you a snapchat/instagram account name and then immediately delete, or "talk" to you trying to push you towards subbing to their Onlyfans in a manner that makes it clear its an AI program.
So while his "match" metric is low, his "real physical person" number is probably a lot lower. Which would make the "got a date" metric relatively considerably higher.
The problem is likely expectations. Tinder is a sex app, any girl on it knows that, and all things they say to the contrary is meant to be anti-slut defenses that you are supposed to push through one way or another. Mr. Doughboy based on appearance alone is not someone I expect to be hitting the hard flirts within the first conversation, but its the only way to hook in girls with 90 other messages waiting. While he is trying to find a literal date with expectations of something beyond sex, meaning a lot of boring foundational conversations.
I have managed to use it in the past to decent success, so it is certainly possible. But that's why I know what women are using it for, what not to do, and why a guy looking like him is almost certainly doing all those things.

You say that like men are even able to get a date in the first place.
