Once again, the distinction between country, nation, and state is an important one.
NPCs during this time were pro English Rule and didn't understand why anyone would disagree. They also believed that anything difficult could be done by someone else.

Guess what colour the Conservative Party is? Blue.
The entire reason the US uses blue for Left and red for Right is due to a Leftist propaganda effort to disassociate Leftism from Socialism. Before this, everyone knew that Leftism and Socialism was (and still is) accurately represented with red.

I mean they're kind of correct in that America was founded on liberal principles, but in the intervening years, the rural percentage of its population has ratcheted left (at least culturally) significantly less than Europe as a whole, meaning an American liberal from 1776 is a nazi by today's standards. The urban population, on the other hand, is now even more histrionic than Europeans.
America is a complicated country with a lot of (mostly self-inflicted) internal fissures.
Old liberalism wasn't necessarily right-wing (compared to Tucker Carlson), but was a long ways from being hijacked by an authoritarian establishment. But, I reject many of those adopting classical liberalism and similar as labels as too willing to support Bernie Sanders or Bill Clinton. They think 70s-90s mainstream progressivism is somehow distinct from today's woke left. I say deport all those who can't renounce MLK.
The Radical Left of the 70's basically won the culture war after losing it in the 80's. The entirety of the woke movement can be traced to 1970's radicals.
An American Liberal would be a radical Anarcho-Capitalist Christian Nationalist by today's standards. Not a National Socialist.
The BLM movement is effectively a National Socialist movement, as it actually copy-pasta's a lot of it's template from the German Volkish movement, and adds American Communism on top of it.
The American Urban Left are effectively Socialists and even Communists, not even "Democratic Socialist" types.
Sorry, I mean 'nazi', as in that's what they would be called.

American Conservatives are effectively Leftists.
The Americans who founded the country are radical Classical Liberals. They would have said Barry Goldwater was too moderate, and they would have advocated for violent revolution against LBJ, Nixon, and Kennedy for massive authoritarian over-reach and godlessness.
