It's just another standard Communist genocide intended to create a loyalist class of murderous thieves, while dividing the country along class lines for the central government to profit off of the instability and the murder, while weaking perceived political opponents. All of it implicitly endorsed or willfully ignored by the entirety of the mainstream political left at the time in the west. Even now, many Socialists and Communists simply sweep by it, ignore it, deny it, or simply assert that it was a good thing.
